Teeth Whitening in Cali FAQs
-
First, the whitening solution is applied to the surface of your teeth which is then activated by the heat of a special LED light.
Treatment is performed in multiple intervals. Gel is applied 3-4 times in 15 minute intervals, with 5-10 minutes in between.
Most patients will require 3 sessions in order to see significant change.
Due to gum sensitivity, consecutive treatments are done every other day.
The whiteness of your smile naturally fades with time. Undergo treatment every few months/years to maintain desired results.
-
First, an impression of your teeth is made that lab technicians use to create your custom whitening trays.
You will learn how to use a syringe to apply whitening gel to the trays which will then be placed over your teeth, covering the surface of your enamel.
The duration of your treatment (15-60 minutes) will depend on the strength of the whitening gel and your desired results. An overnight option is done by using a weaker concentration gel. A full whitening treatment regimen is 2 weeks.
Perform touch-up treatments with the guidance of a dentist. Over-whitening can cause permanent enamel erosion.
-
You will experience a little sensitivity shortly after whitening has been done. This will pass in a few hours/days.
-
Your teeth will be upwards of eight shades whiter from the initial shade. However, the degree of whiteness is dependent on the hue your desire and the level of staining on your teeth. One session will most likely not be enough. Most patients get 3 sessions.
-
Yes, most stains can be removed. However, there are times where your teeth may not respond like they should or a particular stain won’t come out.
When this is the case, we offer dental veneers that can be placed on top of stained teeth to improve their appearance.
-
Whitening is not permanent. Depending on your lifestyle or desired whiteness, you may need touch ups a few times a year to every few years.
-

Dead teeth rarely benefit from any form of teeth whitening.
-
Teeth may look “chalky” for a short period following whitening. This is not permanent and the color will become more uniform within a day or two.
Additionally, you may experience sensitivity to air or cold foods and drinks. The sensitivity usually resolves within a couple days when you finish whitening your teeth.

Yes. Yellowish teeth respond well to bleaching, brownish-colored teeth respond less well, and grayish-hue or purple-stained teeth may not respond well to bleaching at all.
Blue-gray staining caused by tetracycline is more difficult to lighten and may require up to 6 months of home treatments or several in-office appointments to successfully lighten.

Zoom Teeth Whitening is another form of a teeth whitening laser treatment. It lightens the staining or discoloration on your tooth enamel. It is a simple, non-invasive procedure that usually takes about an hour.
The procedure combines a special lamp, called a Zoom light, with a hydrogen peroxide-based whitening gel. Using both at the same time, we will bleach each tooth and produce a brighter smile by the end of the treatment. This solution is currently only available in our Bogota office.

During and shortly after treatment, avoid dark colored drinks that stain like coffee, wine, soda, and fruit juice. If you need coffee in the morning, try using a straw for a few days.
