Colombia as a country has invested a lot of resources, energy, and time into their medical industries, winning the attention of the international community and becoming a popular medical tourism center. Cosmetic dentistry in Cali is no exception.
With many excellent and qualified dentists in Cali, the question is not if you should go but rather who you should see when you’re down here.
This blog post will identify what we believe are the necessary requirements you should use to help you pick out the best dentist in Cali for your cosmetic dental work.
Determine what cosmetic dental work you’d like done in Cali, Colombia
You can narrow your choice of dentist in Cali by understanding the type of cosmetic dental work you need done. Are you considering dental implants? You may want to find a dentist in Cali who has a specialty in doing just that.
Are they experienced in performing the All on Four or All on Six dental implant procedure? Are you thinking about for porcelain crowns? What about porcelain veneers? How about some teeth whitening in Colombia? Find a dentist with an exceptional track record of success doing the exact dental procedure you want performed.
If you’re unsure, find a dentist in Cali who offers a free online consultation
If you’re like many folks, you’re aware that you should see a dentist or that you’d like a better smile but you’re not exactly confident what could be done. If this sounds familiar, you should find a dentist in Cali who offers a free online consultation that you can complete before you book flights down to Colombia.
It is better to know what dental work you will need done before requesting time off of work and planning your trip down to Cali. Knowing what work you’ll be getting done before you arrive will make it easy to receive a dental procedure cost quote.
You want a total understanding of how much money you will be spending (and saving) before traveling to Cali, Colombia for your cosmetic dental care.
Some dentist in Cali will charge a small service fee for this, others may not. Here at Dental Tourism Colombia, we offer a free online consultation by clicking the button below.
We will need you to take 5 well-lit, close up, not blurry photos as the form will guide you. Make sure your back molars are touching when biting down. We will typically contact you back in 2-3 business days.
Explore costs, what are the prices for this dentist in Cali, Colombia?
Cost in an important factor, if it wasn’t you more than likely would not be considering coming to Cali, Colombia for your cosmetic dental care. Have the dental office come up with a quote so you have a good sense on how much money you will spend on the procedure when you’re down here.
When will you have to pay for the dental procedure? Will they accept your type of credit or debit card? Be sure to understand how they do payments at that office.
Remember, you do not want to simply pick the cheapest option available to you. You know the saying, you get what you pay for. Have a little perspective. You will be saving thousands of dollars by getting cosmetic dental work done in Cali for about a third the cost than what you’d be paying back home.
Don’t nickel and dime over a couple hundred dollars. If you are coming all the way to Cali for premier cosmetic dental care, go with the best, not the cheapest.
How many days will you need to stay in Cali, Colombia?
For the most part, you can anticipate similar turnaround times for most dental procedures among the dentists. You will need to know how many days you will be asked to stay in Cali for your trip planning purposes.
If time is short and of the essence (you may only have a few days available) then you may elect to see a dentist who can create your custom made porcelain veneers and crowns faster than most.
Dentists in Cali, Colombia with their own in house lab, or a close relationship with local dental lab, will have the ability to custom make your permanent veneers faster than a dentist who does not.
Also, some dentists in Cali will decide not to be open on the weekends which will increase the number of days you will be required to stay as well. Many patients take advantage of the weekends to get their cosmetic dental work done.
However, chances are you will not need to stay in Cali for more than an entire week. As you can imagine, cosmetic dental procedures can vary in duration, some only take 1 day, others 2-3, and some will need a whole week.
Discuss this with your dentist in Cali beforehand and understand how long you will need before planning your trip down.
How experienced is this dentist in Cali, Colombia?
Decide on the most experienced cosmetic dentist in Cali you can who can perform the procedure you want done. You should know how long your Colombian dentist has been practicing cosmetic dentistry, how long their dental clinic has been in business, and other signs that give insight to their level of expertise.
Most websites will clearly outline a dentist’s credentials so all you may have to do is a quick search of their site.
If this information is not easily accessible, you may have to directly ask for this information by communicating the office. However way you do it, you should get a hold of this information as it will be an important part in deciding on the best dentist in Cali for your cosmetic dental work.
Read testimonials. What have previous patients said about this dentist in Cali?
You want to get your cosmetic dental work done by a dentist in Cali with an excellent reputation. Do not risk getting dental work done by a Colombian dentist who has not been put to the test.
A fantastic way to find out how your experience will be with a given dentist is by reviewing the reviews written by previous patients they have worked on. What have they said about this dentist in Cali’s quality of dental work?
How professional is the staff? Is the office clean and put together? Understanding these will make sure you have an overall quality dental experience.
Read reviews from many sources. Check out their website, follow their Instagram page for a while, see if any blogs, press, or news outlets have written about their dental work, and if they have any reviews written on independent sites like Google. Independent testimonials on independent sites are very credible.
Does this dentist in Cali, Colombia offer a work guarantee?
In the rare case of an issue, what will the dental office be prepared to do? What if something goes wrong? Does the dentist in Cali offer a dental work guarantee? How long will you be covered by this warranty? What are the details?
For example, we stand by our work at Dental Tourism Colombia. If something does happen in the industry standard guarantee window of 1-3 years (1 for crowns, 3 for implants) then we will gladly redo the work for free. This is to cover if the work was improperly made in the lab or improperly installed. All you need to do is come back to see us and we will take care of the rest.
Does this dentist in Cali, Colombia use quality dental manufacturers?
As mentioned earlier in this post, do not simply go with the cheapest dentist in Cali. You should identify a dentist who uses quality materials and manufacturers for the work they will be performing on you.
What manufacturer do they use for dental implants? What materials are these veneers and crowns made out of? Avoid cheaply made products from China or India that will not last long.
We proudly use top American and European dental manufacturers, BioHorizons, Microdent, Zimmer, and Straumann.
Will the office of this dentist in Cali receive you from the airport?
Though not the most important part in identifying which dentist in Cali is best for you, having free airport pickup is a fantastic bonus, something that can separate a dentist from another. This may be your first time to Cali, Colombia so it makes things easier knowing a friendly face will greet you at the airport after you get through customs.
This may also factor into your impression of the overall level of service provided by your Colombian dentist. If a dentist in Cali has a staff member receive you from the airport, it’s an excellent indication that they are serious and professional cosmetic caregivers.
Communicate with the office of this dentist in Cali, Colombia
One of the most important things you can do to help you find the best dentist in Cali for your cosmetic dental needs is to simply get in contact them before making a decision. How easily can you get in touch with them? Do they have a number you can easily call without downloading a new app?
How clearly do they answer your dental questions? How is their English on the phone or in emails? The quality of service you should expect to receive begins with the first contact you have with them.
If they are thoughtful, attentive, and professional from the very beginning, then there is a high probability that they will behave the same throughout your time with them.
There is certainly something to say about how well you get along with the staff and dentist. Personal chemistry is important and you want to feel comfortable with the people who will be doing complicated cosmetic dental work on you.
Conclusion: Identify the best dentist in Cali, Colombia for you and you only
As outlined above, there are a handful of criteria that you should take into consideration when deciding on the best dentist in Cali for your cosmetic dental care. Please do not make this decision on a whim and without research.
Take your time asking your questions and understand the answers they provide. It is a good idea to know what cosmetic dental work you need before you travel to Cali, Colombia, and to have a general idea on how much money it will cost and how long the entire procedure will take.
Read online reviews written by previous patients and make sure this dentist has a work guarantee. Their general quality of communication should be taken into consideration as well.
Cali, Colombia is filled with many exceptional dentists, we’re confident you can find one that will make you happy. We’d love to be considered though :)

To pull this off, all that is required are a few additional logistical sets and a little research. The article below will provide you with an outline to saving a good deal of money by getting your teeth done in Colombia. Enjoy!
Get a free dental quote before coming to Colombia
One of the first things you’ll want to do is to get an estimate for what it will cost for you to get your teeth done in Colombia. This can mean many things.
Will you just need porcelain veneers? What about porcelain crowns? Will you need gum shaping or some laser teeth whitening? What about dental implants or bridges? There are many ways to get your teeth done in Colombia so find out.
Another important note, ensure you are properly comparing the same dental procedure across dentists. As confusing as it may be for someone who doesn’t work in the dental industry, nomenclature for dental offices can vary from place to place.
For example, some offices use the word porcelain while others will say ceramic when talking about the exact porcelain veneer. This is also true for composite and resin, abutment and post, and on and on. The goal in the end is to make sure you’re comparing the prices of the same procedure across the board.
Please keep in mind that these photos are used for a simple estimate, and that a proper clinical assessment, and oftentimes times xrays, will be needed to give a detailed estimate.
Some dentists in Colombia may ask for any xrays and/or treatment plans you may have to help make an initial diagnosis. Please share these if you have them available.
Read reviews of your dentist in Colombia
Assuming you’re happy with the consultation and initial treatment plan, you will want to make sure that this dentist is Colombia is the real deal. How qualified are they? What degrees do they have? How long have they been doing this sort of work?
And most importantly, what have previous patients said about their experience with this dentist? Find out by checking their site for a testimonial page and by reviewing independent sites like Google Maps or Yelp.
Examining photos of their dental work on their Instagram page may not be the same as reading first hand reviews but they are certainly a legitimate way of judging the quality of care you will experience from a given dentist in Colombia. Make sure to check out their social media.
Speak with the dental office
Let’s imagine you’ve done the online consultation already and you’re happy with the quote and treatment plan your Colombian dentist has drawn up for you. You’ve also checked out what others have had to say about the quality of care they’ve received, and the reviews and photos all look great to you. What’s next?
It’s strongly encouraged that you actually speak with the dental office of the Colombian dentist you’d like to visit. This is vital as it will give you a good sense of whether or not you will be able to have a productive discussion about your dental care. You need to be able to properly communicate. That’s important right?
Here are a few questions may want to ask yourself while you’re engaging with the office. How professional are they? How good is their English? Does any party have any difficulty understanding the other? Does the dental office respond quickly and informatively to all of your questions?
If you answer yes to all of these questions, then it may be time to talk to them about the dates you’d like to visit.
Can you take off of work? You need to make sure the dental office can see you before you book your flights, use your vacation days, and journey to Colombia. It would be a real shame if you did all of that work only to find out that the dentist in Colombia is completely booked for the time you’re here and cannot see you.
Many dentists in Colombia will also have one of their staff members pick you up from the airport, help you check into wherever you’re staying, and escort you to your first appointment as well. For many dental patients, this is their first time to Colombia, and some, the first time they’re leaving their home country.
A concierge service like this has a goal of making your arrival as easy as possible. Talking with the dental office before making an appointment will ensure that they will be able to coordinate this airport pick up. This is often a complimentary service as well.
Purchase flights
After you’ve decided on a dentist in Colombia and the office has given you the green light on the dates you’d like your dental work performed, it’s time to purchase your round-trip flights. Getting to Colombia is easy from North America.
There are frequent, cheap, direct flights to Cartagena, Bogota, Medellin, and Cali from Florida and Georgia.
Be sure to share your flight information with your Colombian dentist when you book so they can organize your airport pick up. If time is of the essence (as it often is), you may opt to see your Colombian dentist directly after you land.
This is a common practice among many working professionals who take time off of work specifically to come to Colombia to save thousands on getting their teeth done. Many will take advantage of Saturday since most dental offices are open then and most professionals have off.
Before you book, make sure you know how many days you will need for the procedure you want done. You don’t want to book your return flight a day before your dental treatment is scheduled to end.
Book hotels
Booking a place to stay is the last step in saving thousands of dollars by getting your teeth done in Colombia. Often dentists in Colombia will recommend nearby hotels that their international patients frequently stay at. If possible, see if you can get a hold of this list and find out if these establishments have availability for the dates you’re coming down.
If not, a quick search will show you which hotels are close to the office with room for you.
And that’s that! You’re now on your way to saving lots of money by getting your teeth done in Colombia.

Get a quote for your dental work in Colombia
The first thing you want to do is get a quote for the dental work you need done in Colombia. Find a few dentists that you feel like you’d like to visit and compare their dental procedure prices.
Are they all about the same? Disregard any outliers. Dentists that are too expensive are overpriced or taking advantage of foreigners, and dentists that are too cheap may signal a lack in quality.
Also, make sure you’re comparing the same procedures as nomenclature for dental offices can vary from place to place. For someone who doesn’t work in the dental industry, this can be a little confusing.
For example, some offices like to say ceramic while others will use the word porcelain when they’re both describing the exact same material. Some will say composite when others say resin, abutment and post, and on and on. You get the picture.
In the end, you simply want to make sure you’re comparing “apples to apples” so to speak.
Do a free online consultation with your Colombian dentist
Comparing prices is one thing, having a Colombian dentist take the time to look at your teeth and come up with an initial dental treatment plan is another. You can’t save thousands of dollars on dental work in Colombia if you don’t know what dental work you need done in the first place.
Most of the time, simply sending a few photos to the Colombian dentist will do just fine, though they may ask for previous dental scans and/or treatment plans if they are available.
Please keep in mind that sending photos does not replace getting a physical examination and/or taking x-rays. An online consultation will simply provide a strong idea of what will need to be done, and will be able to provide you with a pretty close cost estimate for the dental procedures.
Read reviews of your dentist in Colombia
If you’re happy with the quote and consultation, you will want to make sure that the Colombian dentist you are considering is the real deal. What are their qualifications? How long have they been in practice?
Most importantly, what have other patients said about the level of treatment and care they received? Check out their site for testimonials but also make sure you’re looking at reviews on independent sites like Google or Yelp.
Reviewing photos of their dental work on their Instagram page may not be the same as reading reviews but they are a credible way in judging the care of a Colombian dentist.
Making sure the reviews and photos meet the quality of care you expect is just another step in saving thousands of dollars by getting dental work done in Colombia.
Speak with the office of your dentist in Colombia
So you’ve done an online consultation, you’re happy with the updated dental quote, and the reviews are positive enough for you to continue. What’s next?
It’s strongly encouraged that you actually speak with the dental office of the Colombian dentist you’d like to visit. This will give you a good sense of whether or not you will be able to have a productive discussion about your dental care. That’s important right?
Here are a few questions to ask yourself. How professional are they? How’s their English? Can you communicate well? Do they respond quickly and informatively? If yes, talk to them about the dates you’d like to visit.
You need to make sure they can see you before you spend money on flights, take off of work, and travel down. It would be a shame if you did all that only to find out that the Colombian dentist is completely booked and cannot see you.
Often times, Colombian dentists will have a staff member pick you up from the airport, check you into your hotel, and take you to your first appointment as well.
For many patients, this is their first time to Colombia, and some, the first time they’re leaving their home country. This concierge service is to help make your arrival as smooth and easy as possible.
Buy flights to Colombia
After you’ve decided on a Colombian dentist and the office has given you the go ahead on the dates you’d like, it’s time to purchase your flights. Getting to Colombia is easy.
There are frequent, cheap, direct flights to Bogota and Cartagena from Florida and Georgia. Other major cities in Colombia like Cali and Medellin are short, hour flights from Cartagena or Bogota.
Be sure to share your flight information with your Colombian dentist so they can coordinate airport pick up. If time is of the essence, you may opt to see your dentist in Colombia directly after you land.
This is a common practice among many professionals who take time off of work to come to Colombia to save thousands on dental care. Many will take advantage of Saturday since most dental offices are open then and most professionals have off.
Book hotels for your trip to Colombia
The final step in saving thousands of dollars by getting dental work in Colombia is booking a place to stay. Often dentists in Colombia will recommend nearby hotels that their international patients frequently stay at.
See if you can get a hold of this list and find out if they have availability for the dates you’re coming down. If not, a quick search will show you which hotels are close to the office with space for you.
Make sure you know how many days you will need for the procedure you want done. It would be a shame if you bought your return flight a day before treatment is scheduled to end.
Congrats! You’re on your way to saving thousands by getting dental work in Colombia.

There are two types of teeth whitening that are typically done at a dentist’s office. The post below will discuss the differences, and other details concerning getting teeth whitening done in Cartagena, Colombia. Enjoy!
Two teeth whitening options you’d get at a dental office in Cartagena
There are many teeth whitening treatment options available to you. There are some that you can do at home like whitening toothpaste and mouthwashes, and some that can only be done at a dental clinic. This is the same in Cartagena, Colombia. If you want quick, noticeable, and affordable changes in your teeth whiteness then you should see a dentist.
In Cartagena, like at other places, there are really two classes of professional teeth whitening that can be done. They are laser teeth whitening and teeth whitening with the take home kit.
Both options will achieve great results, it’s simply a matter of which works best for you. We will discuss the differences of the two in the coming paragraphs.
Armed with this information, you should be able to make a more informed decision on which type of teeth whitening you’d like to get done while you’re in Cartagena, Colombia.
1. Laser teeth whitening is $100 USD per session in Cartagena
The most popular option between the two is laser teeth whitening and works as follows. Before any teeth whitening begins, the dentist in Cartagena will perform a typical dental cleaning.
This is to ensure that any bacteria, food, and/or tartar is not present as it will get in the way of the bleaching agent used for whitening. Failure to remove these obstructions will cause adverse effects and a poor whitening experience.
After a good cleaning, the dentist in Colombia will apply the whitening gel to the surface of your teeth with a great deal of precision and care. The dentist will have to be careful to only cover the surfaces of your teeth and not your gums.

You should know that both, our online and physical consultations are free of any cost. If you are thinking about visiting another dental practice in Cali, be sure to know whether or not they will charge a fee for this service.
It should be noted that an online consultation will not replace the need for a physical and clinical examination. This will only give us a ballpark idea for your trip down.
For dental implants, 3D x-rays will need to be taken in order to judge whether or not your jaw bone has enough bone density to support dental implants in the first place.
What’s the price of a 3D x-ray in Cali, Colombia?
3D x-rays cost about $70 USD in Cali. In Colombia, x-rays of this class are typically administered in specialized facilities that are nearby. Unlike in the US or Canada, dental clinics do not carry all of the scan machines they could ever use.
Since many dental and medical offices cluster around one another in a certain city neighborhood, there is a high probability that a specialized x-ray facility will be a close walk away.
Many Colombian dentists in Cali will have a staff member escort you to their preferred x-ray center and guide you in getting the ideal type of x-ray, and in a format that the dentist works with best.
What is the cost of a tooth extraction in Cali, Colombia?
Generally speaking, there are three types of dental tooth extractions, simple ($90), surgical/impacted ($150), and wisdom ($220). Because not all patients will require tooth extractions and not all extractions cost the same, they are not included in the implant procedure cost.
Depending on your specific dental situation, extractions will be listed as a separate cost that you will be need to account for.
What is the cost of a dental bone graft and membrane in Cali, Colombia?
Depending on what the 3D x-ray you take in Cali shows, you may require a bone graft if your jaw bone does not have enough bone to support a dental implant. If you are planning on getting any teeth extracted at this time, you will also need a bone graft.
You also should know that these bone grafts do not come from your own body, instead they come from cows, oxes, and other bovine. We charge $230 per bone graft gram. Bone grafts will also need membranes that are an additional $190 USD.
If a you require a bone graft, you typically need 1, sometimes 2 grams per tooth. Should you need significant amount of bone grafts, an additional trip may be needed before the actual insertion of the implant.
What is the cost of the implant portion of the dental implant procedure in Cali?
The implant portion of the dental procedure is the rod or screw that is surgically inserted into your jaw bone. Many dental offices (in Colombia and abroad) will advertise this portion of the procedure as a way to distort the total cost of the dental implant procedure. We do not feel this is particularly honest since you and most patients may not know this.
We charge only $1,385 USD for a complete dental implant procedure, this includes the implant portion, the abutment (post), and the crown (cap). If you were to ask for the cost of the implant portion only, it would be $795.
Again, many dental offices will promote the $795 as the implant procedure price, not disclosing the additional costs like the ones we’re explaining to you in this very blog post.
What is the cost of the abutment and crown portion of the dental implant procedure in Cali?
Once more, we include all the components of the dental implant procedure we can into a single $1,385 but many dental offices do not. Make sure you’re comparing “apples to apples” so to speak.
If you inquired how much we priced the abutment and crown, we’d say $590. Please keep in mind that not all implants or crowns are the same, these are ballpark figures.
Typically, implants are constructed out of titanium, and at times zirconia. The crowns that are placed on top of these implants are made of porcelain, and on occasion zirconia.
Dental implant manufacturers will have their proprietary crowns that will fit with their implants. The costs will vary slightly but you get the general sense. We Microdent, BioHorizons, Zimmer, Straumann for our dental implants.
What is the cost of a temporary crown in Cali, Colombia?
Another part of the dental implant procedure that many don’t realize till the end is that you may have to pay additionally for temporary crowns. With the complex and variable nature of dental implants, it is hard to include these into the total price, just like extractions.
Some dental implant procedures may require individual temporary crowns while others will need temporary dentures. For the most part, these are optional but helpful should the implant be in a visible location in your smile or if you’d like that space filled in order to chew your food better.
As you may know, dental implant procedures are usually done in 2-3 phases. The first is when the implant/rod itself is surgically placed into your jaw bone. After, you need to wait 4-6 months for this implant to fuse with your jaw bone.
If you don’t decide to get the temporaries, you will simply live with the gap (which you might be doing so already) while you wait for the second phase of the treatment to be completed.
Once the implant and the jaw bone have fused together, you will return to Cali to have your permanent, heavier crowns placed. With proper dental care, these crowns should last you the rest of your life.
What is the cost of IV sedation in Cali, Colombia?
Depending on how many dental implants you are receiving at a given time, IV sedation might be required rather than optional.
One or two implants can be achieved with you being given laughing gas but if the plan is to get more than that in a single session, it is encouraged you get IV sedation as it will help the Colombian dentist keep you steady for a longer period of time. This will ensure proper placement and healing. Some dentists will simply insist on the sedation, as a procedural practice.
There is always the option to elect to have IV sedation even if your case does not require it. You, like many patients, may simply fear any dental procedure and would rather be put to sleep for its entire duration. Our dental office charges $470 for IV sedation in Cali.

Is a deposit needed for my dental implant procedure in Cali?

If possible, put a travel notice on your card so your bank knows you’re in Colombia. You do not want your debit or credit card declined when it comes time to pay after the work has been done.
Will there be any additional expenses while getting dental implants in Cali?
Great news, additional expenses are likely to be minimal. Food in Cali is of a high and natural quality, and it’s inexpensive. Feast like a King or Queen for $15 a day while you’re down here. Though, the days after getting dental implants, you will be tender and a liquid diet will be recommended.
It might be a good idea to purchase a temporary international data plan for your phone as well so you can use it without worrying about roaming costs.
Though WiFi is often available, you may not want to risk not being without a connection at any moment. For many, it will be their first time in Colombia.

Message us about your dental work desires before flying to Cartagena
Before you set foot on a plane and fly to Cartagena, Colombia, please contact us. Have you seen a local dentist about getting the cosmetic dental work you’re thinking about?
If so, do you have any scans and/or treatment plans we could take a look at? Reviewing these items before will aid us in providing you with a more up-to-date quote and treatment plan.
If you have not had a chance to see a local dentist, we request that you complete our free virtual consultation form. This short form, though it won’t replace scans and a physical examination, will provide Dr. Julio Oliver with an increased understanding of your dental needs which will, in turn, help us give you a superior dental quote.
Note that even if you do show us your dental scans, we will also take our own here in Cartagena, Colombia.
Contacting us first will also give you the opportunity to pose as many questions to us before you ultimately decide to fly down. At the very least, contacting us beforehand will ensure that we have enough availability for you. We would not like for you to arrive when our calendar is full, without opportunity to see you while you’re in Cartagena, Colombia.

To make things especially simple, we can happily recommend great hotels in walking distance to the Dental Tourism Colombia office. We’re located in the Bocagrande region of Cartagena, Colombia.
We’ll pick you up at the Cartagena airport
Once you land in Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG), one of our concierge professionals will meet you at the exit terminal with your name on a board.

Your first dental appointment with Dr. Julio Oliver

Should you need dental scans done, we will take you to the nearby medical facility where they are completed. One minor difference in the way dental work is done in Colombia is the fact that most medical scans (regardless of medical intensive) are done in separate, specialized facilities instead of every practice providing this service.
After the consultation (and scans, if necessary) is done and both you and Dr. Julio Oliver agree to a treatment plan, the real cosmetic dental work begins. This work is often done directly after the consultation but often times patients elect to come back the following day to start the work.
It really depends on how much time you have available to stay in Cartagena, Colombia. We understand that after a flight you may not want to get dental work done.

Why do dental implants in Cartagena cost so little?
Dental implants in Cartagena, Colombia cost $1,385 USD
Dental implants can be absurdly expensive in the US, due in part to the cost of labor and the inefficient US healthcare system. Here in Cartagena, Colombia, we charge $1,385 USD for a single titanium dental implant, abutment, and porcelain crown while dentists back home in the US often price their implant procedures at $4,000 USD. How is it that we can provide the same quality of dental care at a fraction of the cost?
There are many considerations that are baked into this equation and we gladly explain them further below.

Cost of labor is cheaper in Cartagena
Generally speaking, the cost of labor in Cartagena, Colombia is significantly cheaper than the US. This directly impacts how expensive housing, food, transportation and other of life’s necessities are.
When a Colombian cosmetic dentist puts a price on their dental implants, they must take into consideration how expensive the office rent is, how much to pay the dental staff, how much to spend on marketing, and other factors.
When these numbers are significantly less expensive than back home, the total cost of the dental implants and other services goes down as well.
Your US dollar goes a lot further in Cartagena
The US dollar is a lot stronger in Cartagena, Colombia. You can take a taxi around the entire city for $2 USD and have a world class, romantic meal for only $80 USD. Hotels and Airbnbs are significantly cheaper as well. Not only is cosmetic dental implants here a lot less expensive, your dollar is simultaneously a lot stronger here.
Healthcare in Cartagena is financially more efficient
Though the world’s most cutting-edge dental work still takes place in the United States, it’s certainly not the most cost-efficient. We don’t have to get into the political details of why the US Healthcare system is this way. Simply understand that costs aren’t as inflated as they are back home due to insurance companies.
Many dentists in Cartagena use the same manufacturers as dentists back home
Dental care is a good deal more financially affordable in Cartagena, Colombia but that does not equate to cheap quality. In fact, we use the same manufacturers as the best cosmetic dentists back home.

You read correctly, not thousands but tens of thousands of dollars. It’s ridiculous what you get charged for in the U.S., simply because insurance companies can get away with it.
We’ve saved many folks lots of money. You won’t imagine how often we hear folks get quoted over $60k for a full new mouth while we could do it here for just $18k, while using the exact same manufacturers. Wouldn’t you like to have an extra $42k in your pocket? That is nothing to sneeze at.

Consider cost when picking the best dentist in Cartagena
It is no secret that having your dental work done in Cartagena, Colombia will be a lot more inexpensive than getting the care done back home. There are a good deal of Colombian cosmetic dentists to decide from so make it a priority to get complete dental quotes before you decide to travel all the way down to Cartagena. You should do your research and shop around for the most attractive price.
When comparing prices, be sure to receive the total cost of the dental work upfront. Don’t let sneaky pricing surprise you when you least expect it. Ask your questions before your arrival.
What experience does this dentist in Cartagena have?
Be sure that the Colombian cosmetic dentist you are thinking about has a significant amount of dental experience. You will be journeying from abroad so you will want to entrust your dental health with an expert who has done this sort of work for a long time and with a good track record. This will help limit potential problems down the road.
Review the site, do they have their credentials posted somewhere? What sort of degrees does this Colombian dentist have? How long has their practice been around for?
Have you taken the time to speak with this dentist in Cartagena or their office?
Have you spoken with the cosmetic dentists you are considering about visiting in Cartagena, Colombia? Have you emailed with the office and staff? What sort of “vibe” do they give off?
Do they speak English well enough for you? Do they respond quickly to your questions? You will be entrusting this practice with your dental care so you need to be confident in their capabilities.
Are there positive reviews for this dentist in Cartagena?
You’ve heard it before, you get what you pay for. You understand price is not the only thing that matters. It is one of many considerations to ponder. Research the reputation of this Colombian cosmetic dentist and reviews of the staff and practice.

How long will your porcelain veneers or composite veneers last?
This is an important point to think about. Composite veneers can last up to 8 years while porcelain veneers can last up to 20.
This assumes you properly maintain your teeth. When comparing total costs, consider how much “utility” you will get, on average, per year.
Depending on your situation, a shorter period for composite veneers might be in order. Porcelain veneers last longer but require a larger financial commitment.
How much time do the composite or porcelain veneer procedures take?
The time it takes to complete these two types of veneers may be considered significant by some. Composite veneers can be done in 2 days while porcelain veneers will take 2-5 depending on the quantity of veneers procedure.
The reason why porcelain veneers take longer is due to the fact that the permanent porcelain veneers are sent to a lab to be custom manufactured. Composite veneers can be easily done in-house.
This can impact the days off of work you’ll have to take, the number of hotel nights you’ll have to reserve, the extra meals you’ll need to consume, and other factors associated with additional days.
What maintenance is needed for composite and porcelain veneers?
Another concern is the amount of maintenance needed for the upkeep of your veneers. Composite veneers tend to stain and chip easily. If you’re one who drinks a lot of coffee or red wine, or smokes, this may be a concern for you.
At a minimum, we suggest getting touched up at least once a year. Most cosmetic dentists around the globe can easily do this work so it’s not necessary to come all the way back to Colombia in the case of an issue.
You should know that each visit will be an extra so you have to factor that into the total cost when you are thinking about the big picture. On the other hand, porcelain veneers do not need any yearly maintenance at all. This a key advantages porcelain have over composite veneers.
Is there tooth shaving involved with composite or porcelain veneers?
Another point of contention between the two procedures is tooth shaving. There is no teeth shaving involved with composite veneers - with porcelain there is. It is very minimal though, at only 0.3 mm.
This is significantly less shaving than normally done for dental crowns. Some patients don’t like the idea of any shaving though and opt for the composites.
What is the difference in price between a composite veneer and the cost of a porcelain veneer?
To many, this is the most important factor when considering veneers. Composite veneers range from $200 - $400 USD per tooth in Colombia while porcelain veneers range from $460 - $800 per tooth.
Most patients get 20 veneers for a full smile makeover. That’s ten on top and ten on bottom, though you can always do 8 and 8. Some even just do the top row and then do some laser teeth whitening on the bottom to balance out the two shades of white.
Is there a consultation fee with this Colombian cosmetic dentist?
It doesn’t matter if it’s a physical or virtual consultation, at the end of the day, you’re really looking at the total cost of the procedure and the trip down. It doesn’t make a difference if the veneers at Place A are less than expensive than at Place B if the consultation cost makes up for the lower price.
In addition, a free consultation limits risk. You don’t have to spend your funds on a dentist you may not end up using.
Does the dentist in Colombia require an appointment deposit?
Some cosmetic dentists in Colombia ask for an appointment deposit in addition to services rendered. Though it may not be a lot of money (typically in the $500-$1000 range), this should factor this into the total cost as well.
Does the dentist in Colombia offer free airport pickup?
Understanding that you’re an international patient, many cosmetic dentistry professionals will gladly pick you up from the airport. Some will charge extra, others will do it for free. Make sure to consider this when picking the right dentist for your needs.
Check veneers reviews for your dentist in Colombia
Finally, you know the old adage, you get what you pay for. You should know the price isn’t everything. It is simply one of many considerations to tally. Be sure to look into the reputation of the Colombian cosmetic dentist and reviews of the practice.
Do they have an active Instagram account? Do they have a testimonial page with before and after pictures? Do they have credible video testimonials of their work? How about positive reviews on independent sites like Google Maps?
Speak with your dentist in Colombia or their office
Finally, have you taken the time to actually speak with the dentists you’re considering? Have you spoken with the office? What vibe do they give off? Do they speak English well enough? Are they responsive? You will be trusting this establishment with your oral health so you should be certain in their capabilities.

Dental healthcare in Colombia is financially more efficient
Though the world’s cutting-edge medical practice still occurs within the United States, the US healthcare industry is certainly not the most cost-efficient.

There are many variables that go into getting dental implants in Colombia
Generally speaking, the dental implant procedure is done in two phases, which are 4-5 months apart. The first phase is when any teeth are extracted, bone grafts are done, the implants (rods) are placed in your jaw, and temporary crowns (if applicable) are situated.
You’ll need to be in Cartagena for only 4 days (including weekend days) during this first trip.
A few months later, after your jaw bone has fused with the implant, you’ll come back to Dr. Julio Oliver and he’ll add your permanent crowns. These crowns are heavier and will need the implants to be more secure before they are placed.
Before anything though, you should get scans done to learn if your jaw bone density can support dental implants. If not, you may need bone grafts. In cases where you need a good deal of bone grafts, an additional trip will be needed, making the total 3 trips.
Implant procedure costs are split between the two trips.

Cartagena is a short flight and there’s no jet lag to worry about
Cartagena is on the Caribbean coast of Colombia and is easily accessible from North America. There are popular, direct, 2-3 hour flights from Miami, Orlando, and Atlanta, that fly out many times a day.
Cartagena even shares a time zone with the east coast so you won’t have to adjust to any significant time zone differences. This makes coming to Cartagena easier than other options like Mumbai or Dubai. Quicker flights also mean more affordable flights.
Getting dental work in Cartagena comes with a bonus Caribbean vacation
One of the most under-appreciated benefits to getting cosmetic dentistry abroad is the fact that it comes with its very own built-in Caribbean vacation!
You’ll explore one the of oldest, most beautiful cities in all the Americas. With a vibrant history, rich Caribbean culture, Cartagena is a traveler’s delight.
There is a good deal of things to do while you’re here in Cartagena. These include:
Lay on the beaches
The beaches are some of the world’s best, almost out of a movie.
Explore the old colorful colonial neighborhood
As one of the first colonial cities in the Americas, Cartagena has a rich history. The old colonial neighborhood called the “Cuidad Vieja” has narrow streets with vibrantly colored walls and an artistic air to it. From sculptures to jewelry, there are many local artists showcasing their passion.
Visit the historic sites
Cartagena has many historic sites worth visiting. Here are some of our favorites.
Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas: The castillo is the greatest fortress ever built by the Spaniards in any of their colonies. It still dominates an entire section of Cartagena's cityscape today, and should definitely be your first choice of fortresses to visit.
Convento de la Popa: On a 150m-high hill, the highest point in Cartagena stands this convent. A beautiful image of La Virgen de la Candelaria, the patroness of the city, is in the convent's chapel, and there's a charming flower-filled patio.
Iglesia de Santo Domingo: Santo Domingo is reputedly the oldest church in the city. It was originally built in 1539 in Plaza de los Coches, but the original building succumbed to fire and was rebuilt in its present location in 1552.

Best type of veneers in Colombia?
Save thousands of dollars by getting veneers in Colombia.
Before getting veneers done in Colombia for a third the price, know that there are two main types of veneers available, porcelain and composite.
Porcelain Veneers (sometimes called indirect, prep, ceramic) are completed in 2-5 days depending on quantity and last up to 20 years. No yearly maintenance. Minimal tooth shaving/sanding (0.3 mm) may be involved. Won't chip or stain. Each veneer is $490 USD. This is the best long term value.
Composite Veneers (sometimes called direct, resin, prepless, or 80 porcelain/20 composite) can be completed in 2 days and last up to 7 years. Frequent maintenance is required but can be done by any dentist. No tooth shaving involved. Will chip and stain. Each veneer is $250 USD.
Typically patients receive 20 veneers (10 on top, 10 on bottom), often 16 is enough (8 and 8). Sometimes patients get just one row done with some laser teeth whitening on the other so both sets match.

Each have their advantages and disadvantages, it’s a question of finding out which one is best for you.
Apart from the procedure price, there are other costs and factors to consider before you decide which type you’ll ultimately get.
Which type of veneer is best for me?
There are a few variables. You need to consider if you’re suited for the procedure, how long the veneers will last, how long it’ll take to get done, what sort of maintenance is required, if there is shoot shaving involved, and travel costs.
Let’s break down these considerations in a little more detail as we try to understand the best type of veneer for you.
Are you a good candidate for veneers?
First things first, you must be sure you’re a good candidate for these types of procedures. If you haven’t seen a dentist or filled out our free virtual consultation form, then do so now.
Please note that just because you’re qualified for composite veneers, it doesn’t mean you’re a good fit for porcelain; the same goes the other way around. Usually, photos of your teeth from multiple angles will be enough for a dentist to know.
How long do veneers last?
This is one of the more important factors to consider. Composite veneers can last up to 7 years while porcelain veneers can last up to 20. This, of course, assumes you take proper care of your teeth. Don’t go eating hard candies or opening things with your mouth.
When comparing total costs, consider how much utility you will get per year. Depending on your timeline, a shorter period of composites may make sense. Porcelain veneers last longer and require a larger commitment.
How long does the veneer procedures take?
The time difference between these two is considered by some to be significant. Composite veneers can be completed in 2 days while porcelain veneers will take 2-5 depending on the quantity of veneers procedure.
Simply put, the reason why porcelain veneers take long is due to the fact that the permanent porcelain veneers need to be sent to a lab to be created. Composite veneers can be done in-house.
These factors can impact the number of days off of work you’ll have to take, the number of hotel nights you’ll have to pay for, the extra meals you’ll need to eat, and other costs associated with extra days.
What sort of maintenance is required for veneers?
Another major consideration is the amount of work needed for upkeep. Composite veneers tend to stain and chip easily. At a minimum, we recommend getting touched up once a year. Most dentists around the world can do this work so it’s not necessary to come all the way back to Colombia.
Just know that each visit will cost you so you have to factor that into the total price when you’re looking at the big picture. Porcelain veneers do not need any yearly maintenance at all. Another point of contention between the two procedures is tooth shaving. There is no teeth shaving involved with composite veneers. With porcelain, however, there is. It is very minimal though, at 0.3 mm.
This is significantly less shaving than normally done for crowns. Some patients don’t like the idea of any shaving though and thus opt for the composites.

So which type of veneer will you get in Colombia?
There are many factors that go into picking the right type of veneers to get when you’re in Colombia.
The price of the procedure is a big factor but other important considerations include how long the veneers last, how long it takes to get the veneers done, the maintenance costs, tooth shaving considerations, and other details.
Both options will result in radiant smiles, the question is which type is best for you?
